Dogs in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!!! (in a wormhole actually)


For the last few months I've been learning about, trying, and blogging on the Instaclustr Open Source technology stacks. So far I've tried Cassandra, Spark, Scala, Zeppelin, and tried some Spark Machine Learning algorithms out on synthetic and pre-production data as a predictive data analytics example (they have a lot of real data with > 1,000 nodes under management). Also planning on trying ML on the real production data eventually, and learn/blog about Spark streaming, Kafka, etc.

AWS SWF vs Lambda + step functions? Simple answer is use Lambda for all new applications.

I do like my Lamb (daaaa)! What's the difference between SWF and Lambda + step functions? Well, for a start they can be used together. Benefits and Limitations of using Lambda Tasks There are a number of benefits of using Lambda tasks in place of a traditional Amazon SWF activity: Lambda tasks don’t need to be registered or versioned like Amazon SWF activity types. You can use any existing Lambda functions that you've already defined in your workflows. Lambda functions are called directly by Amazon SWF; there is no need for you to implement a worker program to execute them as you must do with traditional activities. Lambda provides you with metrics and logs for tracking and analyzing your function executions. There are also a number of limitations regarding Lambda tasks that you should be aware of: Lambda tasks can only be run in AWS regions that provide support for Lambda. AWS Solution Architecture Certification Postscript

So I sat the exam today and past ok yippee. Guess there's no need to continue blogging about AWS certification stuff!? The AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate exam is intended for individuals with experience designing distributed applications and systems on the AWS platform. Some general observations. The real exam is somewhat harder than the practice tests and practice exam (about 10% harder?) NONE of the practice test questions appear in the real exam. The focus is only what I would call the legacy IaaS Amazon services. Almost no questions on managed services, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Lambda, etc. Lots of questions on what I would call systems and networks admin stuff.  I spent a few months trying to learn this stuff but actually I don't think it helped, I'm not sure I got any of these questions right.
