Job update: Technology Evangelist with Instaclustr!

The 4 evangelist's spires of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona - an amazing architectural structure.

The Evangelists' spires will be surmounted by sculptures of their traditional symbols: a winged bull (Saint Luke), a winged man (Saint Matthew), an eagle (Saint John), and a winged lion (Saint Mark). 

This week I started a new job as "Technology Evangelist" with instaclustr.com
I wonder which evangelist I am going to be :-)  Probably not the Biblical ones.

Instaclustr is a cool company that is growing rapidly and based in Canberra (at UC) but with a significant US presence. They provide Open Source as a Service on multiple cloud platforms, at reliability and scale. They reached a significant milestone of 1PB of data under management a few weeks before I joined - pretty impressive! They started out with Cassandra, and now how multiple offerings and more in the pipeline.

Lots of clever people and customers doing different interesting things.  I'm going to start out developing and blogging about some applications that will use Cassandra and other services, possibly DA/ML related as well. The challenges? Learning to use a Mac (last time was in 1985!) and getting up to speed (at speed) with their technology stack and avoiding brain explosions!

Instaclustr have in-house systems for provisioning Cassandra on different cloud platforms, backing up Cassandra, and monitoring and management of Cassandra. These systems also work for the other Open Source offerings - check them out  :-)

    Red Prism Group is the best aws institute in Noida, this is the best place to learn AWS in Offline or Online mode. AWS is clearly dominating the world with its hundreds of services at very low costs. Put your career to high road. Become an AWS certified solutions architect.

AWS Solution Architecture Certification Postscript

So I sat the exam today and past ok yippee. Guess there's no need to continue blogging about AWS certification stuff!? The AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate exam is intended for individuals with experience designing distributed applications and systems on the AWS platform. Some general observations. The real exam is somewhat harder than the practice tests and practice exam (about 10% harder?) NONE of the practice test questions appear in the real exam. The focus is only what I would call the legacy IaaS Amazon services. Almost no questions on managed services, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Lambda, etc. Lots of questions on what I would call systems and networks admin stuff.  I spent a few months trying to learn this stuff but actually I don't think it helped, I'm not sure I got any of these questions right. Chapter 2: Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Glacier Storage The Amazon Glacier Storage Service is designed for cheap long term archival storage, so you want things to stay put in it for a long time. It is a slightly odd choice of name these days given that global warming is a significant threat to Glaciers (Glaciers are "shrinking" and large dangerous chunks are falling off them as in the above image of the warning signs at a famous New Zealand Glacier (Franz Josef Glacier).  Maybe the Amazon "Glaciers" will be the only ones still around in a few 100 years. I initially found it "odd" that the AWS Solutions Architect Certification book introduced storage services before compute services.  However, in hindsight this sort of makes sense as S3 is one of the original services, is core to other services, and introduces many of the AWS concepts, and is a "managed" service so it simpler and more typical in some respects. ...
